Biography

Dr New Siu Yee received her B.S. from University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) and her PhD from National University of Singapore (NUS). During her PhD study, she was involved in multidisciplinary fields of study with three different research groups and spent a year attachment at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). After graduated, Dr New worked as Scientist I in Institute Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*Star, Singapore, before joining the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus, as an Assistant Professor. Her areas of interest stretch across supramolecular chemistry, protein engineering and nanotechnology based biosensors.

Expertise Summary

  • Crystallization techniques for both small molecules and proteins.
  • Various characterization techniques: UV-vis, FTIR, 1D and 2D NMR, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), powder X-ray Diffraction (XRD), electrospray ionization-mass spectroscopy (ESI-MS), circular dichroism (CD), spectrofluorometer, surface plasmon resonance (SPR-Biacore), quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), etc.
  • Experience in polymerase chain reaction (PCR), protein expression and purification (fast protein liquid chromatography-FPLC),
  • Experience in handling Schlenk line, TLC, column chromatography, Soxhlet extraction and vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC).
  • Experience in simple modeling using Visual Molecular Dynamic (VMD).
