My present research concerns the studies of coherent high frequency (GHz and THz) acoustic waves in semiconductor and insulator nanostructures. There is a special interest in the periodic structures with nanometer period. Optical and acoustical phenomena in one-, two- and three-dimensional structures are studied experimentally by ultrafast optical techniques. Among the structures studied recently are superlattices, microcavities with Bragg reflectors and synthetic opals. As an expert in optical spectroscopy I apply the spectroscopic techniques to ultrafast acoustics using photoluminescence and reflectivity spectra for detection of ultrashort strain pulses and acoustic solitons in nanostructures. The main aim of my research is the experimental observation of new ultrafast acousto-optical phenomena in nanostructures and application of the revealed effects to acousto-optics and acousto-electronics.
