In March, the school were delighted to have been awarded a much-coveted Athena Swan Silver Award, without revisions.
The Athena Swan Award is an accolade that is awarded for five years. It recognises higher education institutions that demonstrate a commitment a substantial commitment to advancing gender equality at the school level.
After successfully achieving an Athena Swan Bronze Award in 2019, colleagues within the school worked hard to develop and complete an action plan which continued to support and promote gender equality. By being able to demonstrate that in-school activities had significant and beneficial outcomes for gender equality, the school was able to apply for the next level of the accolade, a Silver Award.
A special thanks goes to all of our colleagues who have helped to improve gender equality over the last few years, and especially Louise Kettle for driving forward the action plan and leading the application. Congratulations must also go the members of the broader Athena Swan team for their contributions: Tyler Kustra, Joe Bass, Chris Byrne, Ben Holland, Caitlin Milazzo, Kay Paterson-Bassett, Diana Popescu and Indira Barykbayeva (our postgraduate Representative).
The achievement of this award demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the school to improve gender equality and to making the School of Politics and International Relations a better and more equal, diverse and inclusive place for all staff and students.
