Sue Arrowsmith's keynote address in Milan highlights the value of Open Contracting and risk assessment tools for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics

On 29th of November 2019 Professor Sue Arrowsmith gave the keynote address at the workshop, Efficiency and integrity in sport procurement: a dialogue between universities, public institutions and private practice.

The workshop was organised by Professor Annamaria La Chimia in collaboration with Professor Sara Valaguzza from the European Association of Public Private Partnership (EAPPP) and the University Statale di Milano. This was the first of a series of event that EAPP is organising in connection with the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympic Games. The workshop took place at the headquarters of the Lombardy Region (the regional government for the city of Milan) and coincided with the annual Forum of the Italian Presidency on the European strategy for the Alpine Region.

In addition to Professor Arrowsmith, speakers included Gavin Hayman, CEO of open contracting, Luigivalerio Santandrea,  Government Commissioner for the Cortina 2021 Ski World Cup; Antonio Rossi, Vice President of the Lombardy region, Roberto Daneo, responsible for the Milano-Cortina candidacy bid.

Government officials from the Italian central and local government participated to the event, as well as lawyers, scholars, architects and members of Civil Society organisations interested in sports procurement and in the success of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics.
