Made is a PhD candidate with the Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) and the Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre (NHIR). His research aims to improve understanding on the social and cultural influence to dietary behaviour, with a focus on a community in Bangka Belitung, Indonesia, where obesity is found to be on the increase. Through ethnography and other qualitative approaches, he aims to identify the mechanism of how social context and culture shape dietary behaviour, prior to identifying the appropriate dietary intervention for the population at risk. This culturally-adapted behaviour change intervention is expected to inform similar efforts to control obesity in other lower-middle income countries (LMIC) around the world.
