Kamil is a PhD candidate with the Future Proteins Platform. His project is titled Improving the Nutritional Quality of Future Protein and he is supervised by Simon Avery.

Kamil will investigate the effects that nutritional composition of growth media and induction of mistranslation via physiological and chemical signals has on amino acid composition of protein in fungi including mycoprotein for food, starting with the model yeast organism, - S.cerevisiae

Kamil will use the data to develop a method for modifying amino acid composition of the protein in the organism in predictable manner, e.g. increasing/decreasing composition of amino acids in protein product. These methods will be extrapolated to mycoprotein from F.venenatum produced and sold as Quorn by the industrial partner Quorn Foods.
