Bowen is a Ph.D. candidate with the Palaeobenchmarking Resilient Agricultural Systems project. Bowen's research focuses on computer vision techniques. Currently, his research aims to build efficient and effective deep learning models for visual saliency detection, which helps to detect the most distinctive object regions in a visual scene.

Prior to being a Ph.D. student at the University of Nottingham, he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering from Yunnan University, China, in 2017, and a Master's degree in Advanced Computer Science from the University of Manchester, UK, in 2018.
