Richard is a member of the Future Food leadership team. Richard’s research uses computational methods to understand biological problems. His research career at the MRC Functional Genomics Unit Oxford University, Sanger Institute, UCL and University of Nottingham has focused on developing methods and software for investigation of large-scale evolution of genes and genomes in a range of animal and pathogen species.
In 2012 he led the creation of the University of Nottingham Advanced Data Analysis Centre (ADAC). Which now consists of a self-sustaining research team of 20 bioinformatics, data science and research software engineer staff supported by funding from RCUK, InnovateUK, HDRUK, EU and industrial consultancy.
