Mesfin Desta

Mesfin is a PhD candidate with the International Agriculture DTP. His project is titled 'Optimization and efficiency of soil geochemistry at national scale for improved human nutrition'. Mesfin's research is focused on improving the nutritional quality of the Ethiopian food crop teff (Eragrostis teff) with zinc. 

Mesfin completed an MSc in Soil Science at Hawassa University, focused on assessing the impact of floriculture industrial wastes in soil quality parametres on Vertisols and Fluvisols. Mesfin is supervised by Dr Stephan Haefele and Dr Kirsty Hassall (Rothamsted Research), Professor Martin Broadley (University of Nottingham), Dr Samel Gameda (CIMMYT-Ethiopia) and Dr Tilahun Amede (ICRISAT-Ethiopia).
