The discovery and development of a new bacteria-resistant biomaterial by the EPSRC Programme Grant in Next Generation Biomaterials Discovery was recognised at the University’s Knowledge Exchange and Impact Awards 2018.

The Faculty of Science award was received in recognition of the bacteria-resistant plastic, which offers drug-free prevention to biofilm development with the aim of reducing medical device related infections. The material has now been developed for its first commercial application in urinary catheters in partnership with Camstent and ongoing trials in Hospitals. The device also received a CE mark in 2017.
