Yves Bayon from Medtronic visited the University of Nottingham and gave a seminar entitled: “Innovation & Development of advanced biomaterials – To fit value creation expectations of the Medical Devices Industry” on Tuesday 7 November, 2017.
Yves has been involved in various pieces of work, including setting up a porcine collagen manufacturing line and developing collagen-based medical devices for soft tissue repair or regeneration (e.g. Parietex TM Composite mesh and its derivatives). The plans have expanded more since 2015, with cross-functional activities from Medtronic's historical divisions, leading to internal scientific consulting projects.
Yves has been involved in the development of the Sofradim Production site for a long time. He has played key roles in national and European collaborative projects. Since 2010, Yves has also promoted exchanges between academics and industry through more than 10 symposia for 3 scientific societies: TERMIS-EU (Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine International Society), ESB (European Society for Biomaterials) and AMBA (Advanced Materials for Biomedical Applications). Yves described some of the opportunities and challenges in the medical device industry to the audience from the EPSRC Programme Grant in Next Generation Biomaterials Discovery and the wider University.
