Description
Global Vikings poster

The study of Vikings as a global phenomenon requires that scholars pursue research abroad and create connections with international academic communities. Join us at the University of Nottingham to discuss the exciting results of the recent archaeological expedition to a Viking Age site in Ukraine with Dr Cat Jarman and the Nottingham student participants. A guest appearance will also be made by Honorary Professor Lesley Abrams who will discuss the broader history behind the Viking winter camp phenomenon.

Programme:

2.00 Introduction (Roderick Dale)

2.15 – 3.00 From Nottingham to Chernihiv (William Pidzamecky, Jessica Yusek, Jessica Treacher, Lauren O Brien)

3.00-3.30 From Repton to Chernihiv (Catrine Jarman)

3.30-4.00 Tea Break

4.00-4.30 Viking Camps in West and East (Lesley Abrams)

4.30-5.00 General discussion and questions (Judith Jesch)

The event will also mark the official launch of our new virtual museum Vikings in the East Midlands. Refreshments will be provided - all welcome.
