Before your quit date


What do I need to do before my quit date?


Use a patch!


    • For up to 4 weeks before your planned quit date, use a daily nicotine patch
    • Put a new patch on when you wake up and take it off before you go to bed
    • Put the patch on your arm, shoulder, hip or thigh but not over your heart
    • Choose a different place each day; use the right side one day and the left side the next

Cut down on your smoking

 

  • When you start wearing the patch, you must try to smoke less than usual. Preloading has more chance of helping you stop for good if you manage to cut down
  • Start by cutting out the cigarettes you feel you need least, or the ones that you view as just a habit or something to do
  • Generally cut out more cigarettes every few days.
