Biography

I am a social worker, registered with Social Work England. I qualified as a social worker at the University of Nottingham in 2001 and worked in Community Mental Health Teams, supporting adults with mental health problems. I qualified as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) in 2005 and undertook this statutory role in local authorities for ten years. I have also worked in Learning and Development in local authorities, supporting the continuing professional development of social workers, including achievement and maintenance of AMHP and Best Interest Assessor status.

I began working in the Centre for Social Work in 2016. My current teaching commitments include mental distress and social work with adults and families. I have particular professional interests in the fields of adult mental health, the application of the Mental Capacity Act and on personal resilience and mental wellbeing for social workers.
