Biography
Katy is an Assistant Professor of Criminology in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Nottingham. She holds a PhD in Social Work and an MA in Social Science Research Methods from the University of Nottingham, and a BA in Criminology from the University of Lincoln. Katy is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and is working towards her PGCHE.
Katy has published in the British Journal of Social Work and the Journal of Adult Protection, and has presented her research at numerous national and international events. She is an Associate of Addressing Domestic Abuse, and has featured in The Guardian and Sky News.
Prior to her MA, Katy worked for the University of Lincoln, developing pathways and provision of support for students subjected to sexual violence and domestic abuse.
Expertise Summary
Katy's PhD and ongoing research interests relate to domestic abuse and service provision, particularly the relationship between technology-facilitated domestic abuse and access to services. Katy has also been involved in projects relating to gambling-related domestic abuse and social housing (hosted by Durham University) and end of life marriage (hosted by the University of Nottingham). Katy's research interests broadly fit within the areas of gender, gender-based violence, service provision, lived experience, and feminist research methods.

Katy has previously convened and taught modules on Gender and Violence (University of Lincoln), Gender, Deviance, Crime and Society (University of Lincoln), Restorative Justice (University of Nottingham), Investigating Social World (University of Nottingham), and An Introduction to the Criminal Justice System in England and Wales (University of Nottingham). She has taught foundation and pre-masters modules at the University of Nottingham International College.
Katy is interested in acting as second supervisor for PhD projects broadly relating to violence and abuse, violence against women and girls, service provision, lived experience, feminist theory, and critical criminology.
