Nottingham tennis scholar completes clean sweep of championships

 

Rebeka Stolmar - University of Nottingham Sport BUCS Women's Singles Champion

The University of Nottingham was represented at the 2024 BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Individual Tennis Championship with a number of students competing at Loughborough University towards the end of March.

Out of those players, Nottingham sport scholar Rebeka Stolmar made her way through the pack without dropping a set to take home the 2024 women's singles title, sealing the remarkable taking feat of winning all four of biggest titles in BUCS tennis available in one year.

Rebeka entered the women's singles tournament as the number one seed, easing through the first two rounds to reach the semi-finals where she defeated a University of Bath representative. Facing Loughborough's Karvouni in a captivating final, Rebeka claimed gold in two sets to close out a phenomenal year on the court in the #GreenandGold of the University of Nottingham. Captain of the women’s first team, Rebeka has now become the third successive University of Nottingham representative to take gold in the BUCS Individuals Singles, after Noppawan Lertcheewakarn in 2022, and Patrick Foley in 2023.

After winning the singles title, Rebeka's medal haul for the 2023-24 season includes gold in the BUCS Doubles, BUCS Singles, and both of the team BUCS championships - the league and cup. The club have acknowledged her talent: ‘Rebeka's season has been nothing short of invincible. Her success this year is unparalleled, achieving four titles at the highest level in BUCS tennis. Rebeka has been a role model in UoN tennis as a coach, captain and competitor, and her achievements distinguish her as probably one of the most successful post-graduate scholars in UoN Sport history.

With the university tennis season now over, Rebeka will return to the University of Nottingham Tennis Club to run intermediate sessions at the university, as a highly respected individual within the club. Rebeka also hopes to continue playing doubles with her long time tennis partner, Marie Mattel, to keep up her passion and talent for the sport.
