Sports Marketing Officer

We're looking for a dynamic and creative Sports Marketing and Communications Officer to join our award-winning sports marketing team here at the University of Nottingham.

In this role, you'll be responsible for developing and delivering engaging marketing and communication campaigns that raise the profile of University of Nottingham Sport and drive income through promotion of our range of sector-leading facilities, programmes and services.

This role is vital to our ambitious Vision for Sport - to be the best UK university for sport, physical activity and wellbeing. You'll be a key contributor in making that vision a reality, driving growth and enabling us to raise the profile of University of Nottingham Sport.

Key responsibilities will include coordinating multi-channel campaigns to promote our student and community offer, creating high-quality copy and content for print, web and social media, liaising with design agencies, photographers and videographers and supporting priority department events such as the Nottingham Varsity Series.

Black Students Sports Officer

This is an exciting opportunity to lead work that opens up sport, physical activity and fitness for Black students across the University. As the Black Students Sport Officer, you will help shape and deliver initiatives that make our programmes more engaging, inclusive and empowering. A typical day may involve collaborating with student groups, analysing participation insights, meeting with community partners and co-designing activities that support wellbeing, academic success, leadership and life skills.

We are looking for someone who brings a strong understanding of the experiences of Black students, is confident building relationships and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, as well as having excellent communication and organisational skills. You will be able to use insight and feedback to shape projects and decisions, demonstrating a genuine passion for inclusive sport and student experience.

Group Exercise Instructors

We're currently recruiting group exercise instructors to deliver a range of classes, specifically Pilates, Aqua, Zumba and Les Mills programmes.

In particular, we are keen to recruit group exercise instructors at our Sutton Bonington Sports Centre.

Fitness qualifications and previous experience are essential as well as a commitment to deliver an excellent experience for our sport and fitness members.

Sports Centre Assistants

Sports assistants ensure and sustain the provision of a range of sports facilities and activities to provide a high level of customer service to its users across all three of our sports centres- David Ross Sports Village, Jubilee Sports Centre, and Sutton Bonington Sports Centre.

Responsibilities include:

  • To provide an effective service in the day-to-day running of the Sports Centre, with duties including setting up equipment, preparation of facilities for events, daily health and safety checks, daily building maintenance and fault reporting.
  • The security and safe us of the sports centre and surroundings
  • Responsible for administrating first aid to staff, students, customers and contractors
  • For the David Ross Sports Village, you will require your National Pool Lifeguard qualification to be able to work at the pool when you are working.

Swim Teachers

Do you have a passion for swimming and teaching others to learn to swim? We are recruiting Level 1 and Level 2 Swimming Instructors for both regular hours and cover work. 

Our Learn to Swim programme is available for all ages and abilities from 6 weeks to adults. You can find out more about the programme here. We deliver group swimming lessons for Juniors and Adults, Early years lessons for 6 weeks old to 4.5 years, 1-2-1 lessons and an expanding School Holiday programme.  Our Learn to Swim programme is available to students, staff, the local community and young people. We work in partnership with Swim England to provide high quality swimming lessons focused on developing stroke technique and a range of water skills. Our group lessons run: 

  • Mondays 16.00 – 19.30
  • Tuesdays 16.00 – 20.00
  • Thursdays 9.30-12.00
  • Saturdays 9.00 – 12.45/12.00-16.00
  • Sundays 9.00 – 13.00

Our 1-2-1 lessons run: 

  • Mondays 10.30-15.00
  • Mondays 16.30-18.30
  • Saturdays 12.00 – 16.00
  • Sundays 11.00 – 15.00

Our Early years lessons run: 

  • Tuesdays 16.00-18.30
  • Fridays 9.00 – 12.00
  • Saturdays 9.00 – 17.00
  • Sundays 9.00-13.00


If you are interested in regular teaching slots, you will need to be able to work from the start of September or as soon as you are successful in the role, until the end of July. The programme breaks for 2 weeks at Christmas, one week at Easter.

We're looking for a fitness instructor to provide a high quality, friendly, well organised and professional service to the department’s customers within the University’s fitness facilities.

Responsibilities include,

  • new member inductions
  • writing fitness programmes
  • delivering fitness classes
  • giving help and guidance to members
  • walking the gym floor engaging, interacting and looking after the well-being and motivation of our members.

A current NVQ level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in gym/fitness instructing is essential to this role.

Hours of work are not fixed and by mutual agreement. Full training is provided.
