Get out of the classroom with the Rural Business Management module

Solidify your learning in a real farm environment

Developing a strong knowledge of the theory behind rural business management is one thing, but being able to apply this knowledge to a real-life situation unlocks so much more.

The Rural Business Management module available in your third year gives you a unique opportunity to study a working farm and develop management and financial solutions to the issues it faces.

There’s a mix of lectures, practical classes and farm visits, as well as guest lectures from leaders in the industry to give you an insight into what it takes to manage a modern rural business.

You’ll then join forces with other students to develop and present a farm plan based on what you’ve learnt.

By the end of the module, you’ll have valuable experience with things like business planning and budgeting and labour and machinery management that you can take into graduate life.

Agriculture BSc student, Rachel takes us along for the ride to the farm so we can see just what you’ll be getting up to on this module.

Agriculture student Rachel vlogs a field trip to a local farm as part of their Rural Business Management module.

At the University of Nottingham, we have a lot of modules that have field trips and have an outdoor element to them, so it's really nice to go out and about and experience that, and it really solidifies the learning in the actual environment.
