Multi-Phase Fluid Modelling

The UTC develops multi-phase fluid modelling across a range of scales and at differing levels of fidelity, as appropriate to provide analysis and answers within the right timeframe. Fundamental modelling work is ongoing on such phenomena as droplet evaporation, gas-liquid interfacial shearing behaviour, lubrication of highly loaded contacts, thermal management, and much more. A variety of modelling techniques are employed, from computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and thermal elastic hydrodynamic lubrication (TEHL) to machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). By adapting and coupling modelling approaches to different problems, accurate models can be generated without sacrificing computational efficiency.
