Project Personnel Research Papers

The Visual Learning Lab has supported personnel from across the University in researching visual technologies.  This has either been through grants or through conference-funding.  Follow the links below to download or browse their papers.  You can also look at teaching and learning resources featuring project personnel and other staff from the University by visiting the Promoting Enhanced Student Learning (PESL) website .

Videoconferencing facilities in use

Dr Brenda Rush and Dr Heather Wharrad from the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy received an award from the VLL to install and pilot videoconferencing technology in their School.  They have used this technology to link students to clinical practice settings.  They worked with colleagues from the School on a paper for the International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation (ICERI) .  You can also read Brenda's interview for the VLL Showcase of Innovations in Visual Learning.

Dr Cathy Gibbons is a Researcher Development Manager in the Graduate School.  The VLL gave her a grant to purchase mobile technology for nursing students.  Read her paper How does having a pocket PC help doctoral students?  for the 4th International Conference on E-Learning (ICEL), University of Toronto, July 2009.  You can also read Cathy's interview for the VLL Showcase of Innovations in Visual Learning

 

 

A simulated flood

Dr Gary Priestnall from the School of Geography worked with Dr Jack March from the University of Sheffield on a paper entitled Learning to read the landscape: Interactive visual tools for exploring spatial thinking for the Geographical Information Systems Research UK 2008.  You can also read Gary's interview for the VLL Showcase of Innovations in Visual Learning .

Claire Mann received VLL funding to undertake an MA in Educational Research Methods in the School of Education, and then went on to secure funding to undertake a PhD in the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science (SVMS).  She attended the International Conference of ICTS in Education in Corfu in July 2009 where she presented a paper on the use of interactive whiteboards across the University.
