The Department of Philosophy at The University of Nottingham is a centre of excellence for research and teaching, which is recognised internationally. We produce cutting-edge research - in the latest Research Excellence Framework, 69% of our research was rated as being 'world leading', or 'internationally excellent', with the remainder all of a quality that is 'recognised internationally'.
The department offers a range of undergraduate degrees and has an exceptionally able body of students. We will be taking about 60 single honours students next session and we also participate in 10 joint honours courses.
Last year the total number of students taking at least one philosophy module with us was more than 1,000. This is made up of single and joint honours students from all three years, as well as postgraduates and subsidiary students.
At postgraduate level we offer taught and research degrees and have a vibrant community. Our postgraduates have had notable success in publishing and in the job market.
The Department is taking steps to implement the measures contained in the important report 'Women in Philosophy in the UK', published jointly by the British Philosophical Association and the Society for Women in Philosophy.
The University has policies on both Dignity, and Equality and Diversity and these can be viewed below:
