Biography

Before joining Nottingham's Department of Philosophy Scott had taught at the University of Tasmania, the University of New South Wales, Oxford University and the University of London.

Expertise Summary

Scott's research interests are currently in the philosophy of science, especially the topics of risk, induction and probability. He is working on the concept of risk, and a defence of inductive reasoning, based on the work of Donald Cary Williams and David Stove. He also has interests in personal identity, on which he has published extensively.

Research Summary

His current research is focused on the psychological criterion of personal identity. Other areas he has worked in recent times include induction, grue, and conceptual issues in risk.
