Selected Publications

I convene a year 2 modules entitled "Force and function at the nanoscale". This aims to provide an introduction to the kinematics of nanoscale systems, to develop an understanding of the origin of forces on the nanoscale, and to develop an appreciation of the role of intermolecular, interparticle and surface forces in nanoscale science, technology and biology.

Current Research

My research covers a variety of topics in particle fluids, often those which are far from equilibrium. I'm also interested in understanding the physics behind the interactions between particles and grains. The work ranges from projects connected with industry to more fundamental investigations aimed at improving our understanding of these different phenomena. Accessible summaries of research projects I have been involved with can be found on the Research Summaries page of my website.

Current projects and research interests being developed include:

  • Phase transitions / glassy behaviour in 2D granular media
  • Flow in Yield Stress Fluids
  • Electrostatic charging of grains
  • Wetting, cohesion and granulation of grains
