Career Summary
Graeme is Head of Survey and Geomatics at AOC Archaeology which he joined in 2005. Since graduating in 2001 he has been active in archaeological research in Scotland, in both commercial and academic sectors of the industry. After a period in commercial archaeology, when he specialised in archaeological survey, he commenced postgraduate research on the crannogs and the later prehistoric settlement of Scotland at the University of Nottingham. Graeme’s areas of technical expertise are principally in archaeological survey and the application of GIS, and he has directed numerous surveys and excavations, including two underwater excavations.
At AOC Graeme has primarily been involved in the development of terrestrial laser scanning technology in archaeological survey through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the University of Nottingham ; this programme was recently completed and awarded the grade of ‘Outstanding’ by the review committee. Graeme currently co-directs a major campaign of wetland excavation in SW Scotland, and directs several archaeological survey programmes in the north of Scotland. He is a PADI Dive Master (HSE recognised) and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
