Residents and volunteer archaeologists participated in this exciting multi-period and interdisciplinary fieldwork project to investigate Southwell.
The historic town of Southwell lies on the River Greet, about 14 miles north east of Nottingham, and has a fascinating long-term archaeological and historic record. Our multi-period and interdisciplinary fieldwork project is investigating Southwell in its wider landscape setting. It is combining a range of desk-based and archaeological survey techniques (e.g. test-pitting, geophysics, fieldwalking, environmental and standing buildings recording) to examine how the area developed from the Roman period to the present day.
