Southwell Fieldwork Season 2012: volunteer sign-up

9-30 June 2012 Events &
volunteer
opportunities

Between 9 - 30 June 2012 a team of archaeologists will be working in the Southwell area, carrying out survey and small scale (1m x 1m) excavations around the town and its surrounding landscape.

Want a hole dug in your garden?

If you live in the Southwell area this is your chance to be part of the project. Here is the deal:

  • You tell us where to dig - the team will excavate a 1m x 1m test pit in any area of your garden that you specify and nowhere else.
  • All test-pits will be completed within one day (unless the team find something really interesting and you want them to continue!)
  • The area will be returned to its previous state - you will barely be able to tell the team was there.

In return for allowing access to your garden you will be invited to participate in the excavation of your test pit and learn more about what the archaeologists find (alternatively, you can just sit back and watch others do the hard work). Most importantly, you will be invited to the end of excavation party, where the results and finds from the season will be presented.

Express your interest : sign-up to our list online

Want to get your hands dirty?

We have now reached our maximum numbers of survey and dig volunteers. You may still express your interest by joining our waitlist.

For the first two weeks of the project (9-23 June) priority places will be given to archaeology students from the University of Nottingham and the University of Leicester.

For the third week of the project (23 – 30 June) priority places will be given to members of the public, school groups and sixth-form students interested in pursuing a career in archaeology.
