The Department of Art History is located in the University’s impressive new Humanities building, providing an excellent environment to support both undergraduate and postgraduate study in art history and visual culture. The Department of Art History is an energetic and distinguished group of eight full-time academic staff and three support staff, and scored 23/24 in the latest audit on teaching quality by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.

The Nottingham Institute for Research in Visual Culture (NIRVC) is a dedicated institute which co-ordinates all research activities of the Department of Art History and organises an annual programme of seminars, symposia, and conferences.
Members of staff in the Art History department are active researchers, producing nationally and internationally recognised publications including catalogue raisonnés, catalogue essays, monographs and scholarly articles. Recent publications by members of staff.
