Research Assessment Exercise 2008

In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), 75 per cent of research in the the Department of Art History at Nottingham has been rated as being of 'world-leading or of international excellence'.

The Department was ranked equal 10th among all art history departments nationally.

The Department of Art History has also performed very well in relation to colleagues at the University of Nottingham, being ranked 12th out of 47 departments.

What is the RAE?

The RAE is an official, government-sponsored rating of research across all subjects in all UK universities, which is conducted every 6 years.  With 67 different panels of academics, the RAE grades research performance in each subject area by reading the 4 best publications of each member of staff over the previous 6 years, and also by assessing the quality of the research environment at the university and the achievements of the staff members.
