Hang Le is an Associate Professor in Finance. Her research focuses on the link between finance, labour, and environment. Her current work explores the impact of health and environment issues on financial decisions such as portfolio choices and retirement planning. Hang has recently co-authored a report on financial well-being and disabilities and long-term conditions with the Money and Pensions Service, an arm's-length body, sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions. She has published in leading journals (Regional Studies, British Journal of Management, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organisations, Financial Review, European Financial Management, Cambridge Journal of Economics and European Journal of Finance). She has acted as a reviewer for various journals, publishers and funding bodies (The Social Sciences and Humanity Research Council of Canada, The Leverhulme Trust - British Academy). Hang is an editor for Annals of Corporate Governance, which is published under the auspices of the International Corporate Governance Society (https://www.nowpublishers.com/ACG).
Hang is passionate about teaching and developing innovative teaching methods. She is the winner of the prestigious Lord Dearing Award 2019 in recognition of her high quality teaching. She was also nominated for the 2019 Times Higher Education 'Most Innovative Teacher of the Year' award.
Hang has served as an external examiner for the Accounting and Finance UG Programmes at University of Bath Management School (2019-2023) and the MSc Financial Management at University of Birmingham Business School (2023-).
Hang has successfully supervised doctorate students (seven to completion) in the area of CEO overconfidence and narcissism, board of directors, bank systemic risk, shareholder voting, shareholder herding behaviours, shareholder activism, corporate innovation, and corporate network using quantitative and experimental methods. She welcomes applications to study for a doctoral degree in finance who have strong quantitative background (e.g. economics, finance, accounting and maths) and have good knowledge of one of the following software packages/programming languages (R, Python, STATA or Matlab). I have also acted as book reviewer for Oxford University Press, McGraw-Hill Education, Pearson Education.
