Achievement Awards for Chemistry

TangDr Samantha Tang, Public Awareness Scientist of the School of Chemistry, has won the Lord Dearing Award for outstanding achievement in enhancing the student learning experience.  The Lord Dearing Awards, a scheme that began in 1999, recognise University of Nottingham staff for high quality teaching and the support of learning. The Awards are hotly contested annually and individuals or teams are nominated by students and/or schools and departments. There were 55 submissions this year from which there are 20 very worthy winners spread across the University.

Dr Tang’s efforts include promoting chemistry through schools outreach and providing science communication training for postgraduates, and the Vice Chancellor presented her with her Award at the graduation ceremony on the 15th July.

Dr Tang is also part of The Periodic Table of Videos team, who have won a Creativity International Award. The 41st Creativity Media & Interactive Competition saw entries from all over the world. Entrants into the competition represented 14 countries, 3 Canadian Provinces and 27 U.S. states. The winners were considered by the judges to be an example of outstanding creativity and design. The Periodic Table of Videos was selected as a Platinum Winner, i.e. Best of Category, in the New Media and Web Design Division, Public Service/ Non-Profit Website Category.
