Cultural Activities

We welcome opportunities to work with schools and local communities to promote Chinese language and culture and to develop understanding and stronger links between Britain and China.

We have established contacts with several schools in the East Midlands region over the past few years. We are invited to run language taster sessions and cultural workshops regularly at local schools including The Long Eaton School, Rushcliffe School, The Nottingham Bluecoat School and Technology College and Nottingham Chinese School.

Drawing upon the expertise and resources of Nottingham’s School of Contemporary Chinese Studies, its partner institution Fudan University and the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban- the Office of Chinese Language Council International), we offer language taster sessions and workshops focussing on aspects of Chinese culture such as:

  • Mandarin taster
  • Calligraphy
  • Painting
  • Origami
  • Martial arts (Kong Fu, Taichi)
  • Traditional Chinese musical instruments
  • Chinese cooking
  • Singing
  • Chinese films
  • Public seminars on China

If your school or organisation would like us to run a language or cultural workshop, please email us at confucius.institute@nottingham.ac.uk . We are also happy to run tailored China enrichment programmes for schools. So if what you require is not included in the list above, please get in touch and we will do our best to help.
