Creative Student Network

The Creative Student Network (CSN) helps students develop the skills that will help them find jobs in the creative industries. We organise workshops with industry guests who give students advice on starting their careers and feedback on their CVs, cover letters and networking techniques.

Previous guests include Oscar winning sound designer Randy Thom (Skywalker Sound), visual effects producer Francine Marchetti, and Creative Director Andy Bryant (Red Bee Media). We have also brought back recent graduates now working in film and television production and marketing to share their experiences of the industry.

CSN also offers an annual internship scheme, placing students in major US and UK based film, television and marketing companies. In the past we’ve sent to students to Fox Studios and the Art Directors Guild in Los Angeles, Red Bee Media and The Entertainment Agency in London, and Canopy Insight in Nottingham. These internships are a vital stepping-stone to careers in the creative industries.

Interning at Fox was the single most important period of my career to date. The opportunity to work in the city of Los Angeles was invaluable and learning about the mechanics of the Hollywood Studio System from the inside has continued to give me an edge over my UK counterparts.

After interning at Fox I now have a few contacts in the industry as well as a much broader and clearer understanding of how the world of film works. These internships are a perfect springboard for getting into the industry.

Red Bee Media asked me to script and cut a BBC promo for a new season of Inspector George Gently. Although Red Bee had already cut these promos, they allowed me to draft my own version… I had been given 30 seconds of gold for future job applications.
