Flavian Epic Network Conference

Over recent years the Flavian Epic Network (FEN) has organised a series of events on individual Flavian epic poets as well as on their relationship to Flavian culture and their reception. These culminated in the first major conference devoted to the Flavian epic as a whole: Flavian Epic Interactions, hosted by the Department of Greek and Latin at University College London.

In recent years there has been a massive resurgence of interest in the Latin epic poets writing in the late first century AD. Lucan’s Civil War, Valerius Flaccus’ Argonautica, Statius’ Thebaid and Achilleid and Silius Italicus’ Punica were very little read in the early twentieth century.
