2013

Processes of integration in the Roman World

Date: 5-7 July 2013 at the University of Nottingham

This conference addressed how increasing contact between Romans and others led to the integration of the Roman world, spanning the time period c.200 BC to AD 300.

 

2012

ISOS Conference: Sex and Slavery

Date: 13-14 September 2012 at the University of Nottingham

This conference was hosted jointly by the Department of Classics and the Institute for the Study of Slavery at the University of Nottingham, and the School of Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Leicester.

Menander in Contexts

Date: 23-25 July 2012 at the University of Nottingham

This international conference was designed to examine and explore the Menander we know today in the light of the various literary, intellectual and social contexts in which they can be viewed.

 

2011

Flavian Epic Network Conference

Date: 23-24 June 2011 held at University College London

Over recent years the Flavian Epic Network (FEN) has organised a series of events on individual Flavian epic poets as well as on their relationship to Flavian culture and their reception. These culminated in the first major conference devoted to the Flavian epic as a whole: Flavian Epic Interactions, hosted by the Department of Greek and Latin at University College London.

Childhood and Education: a view from the past

The fourth annual conference of the SSCIP, hosted by the University of Nottingham and the Municipality of Sparti, brought together scholars from diverse disciplines to discuss childhood and education in the past.

Always coming after: The influence and impact of Post-Augustan Latin epic

In recent years there has been a massive resurgence of interest in the Latin epic poets writing in the late first century AD. Lucan’s Civil War, Valerius Flaccus’ Argonautica, Statius’ Thebaid and Achilleid and Silius Italicus’ Punica were very little read in the early twentieth century.
