Information for students from the USA

Entry requirements to our bachelors degree programmes vary depending on your chosen course, however as a minimum requirement, you will typically need one of the following:

• Three approved APs ranging from 4, 4, 4 to 5, 5, 5.
• Three SAT Subject Tests ranging from 650, 650, 650 to 700, 700, 700.
• A combination of three distinct APs and Subject Tests (with test scores as above).

Subject preferences may apply. Many courses will have higher requirements than the minimum listed above.

Applicants intending to apply for US government loans must hold an official high school diploma (transcripts) or recognized equivalent.

SAT subject tests are not accepted for admission to medicine. Restrictions may also apply for other STEM courses. Subject Tests in mathematics are not typically accepted for engineering, physics or mathematics programmes at the University and SAT Physics is not accepted as an A level Physics equivalent.

US Associate Degrees will be considered for admission on an individual case-by-case basis (minimum CGPA of 3.0 or above).

We do not generally require any standardised tests, but medical applicants are required to take the UKCAT test. We do not accept the BMAT.

Our Undergraduate Prospectus lists entry requirements for A levels and International Baccalaureate students by programme. Typical A level offers range from BBC to AAA and from 28 to 36 for International Baccalaureate.

While the University may consider transfer into year two for students who have completed at least one year of University studies in the US, we cannot waive individual classes/semesters, only provide exemption from a whole year.  The decision regarding exemption to year two is programme dependent and requires the applicant to have studied comparable academic content to the Nottingham programme in the US for further consideration.

Applicants who hold a qualification equivalent to a UK degree and studied it in English in the USA or applicants who are a US national and hold qualifications equivalent to GCSEs (Grade 11) to the required level are not required to show any additional evidence of English language ability.

Applicants should hold a masters degree of a good standard from a recognised university in a relevant subject area and typically have achieved a CGPA of 3.2 out of 4.0.

You should identify possible supervisors at Nottingham before applying and prepare a research proposal to submit with your application.
