Dr Naomi Sykes, Lecturer in Zooarchaeology at the University of Nottingham met up with Channel 4's Time Team on 7th April to look at their animal bone assemblage of lots of lovely red and fallow deer. Time Team are currently working at Kings Clipstone (medieval royal palace and hunting lodge) in Sherwood Forest.
The parts of the skeleton that are represented (predominantly heads and feet) demonstrate that the deer were being butchered and the venison redistributed according to strict social etiquette, with different bits of the carcass being given to people of different social standing.
