Dama International receives award for Radiocarbon dating

As the Department of Archaeology's fallow deer project moves into its second year, the team has been awarded support from the NERC Radiocarbon Facility to ascertain the age of a number of key specimens.

This dating programme will be vital for reconstructing the ancient history of this iconic species. In combination with the team's genetic work these dates will prove, once and for all, whether the fallow deer introduced to Britain in the Roman period endured or became extinct before being reintroduced by the Normans.

To find out more information, please visit the fallow deer project website or follow the team on twitter @DeerProject.
