Mahara is an open source ePortfolio and community web application that allows users to create and maintain a digital portfolio of their learning. Over the last few months, the Centre for International ePortfolio Development within IS (CIePD) have been working closely with pilot areas (Biosciences, Pharmacy, English, CELE) to introduce new teaching and learning practice using Mahara ePortfolios.
Mahara is being used to support activities such as journal creation, reflection, personal and professional development planning and collaboration in key strategic contexts including placements, tutoring, professional and employability learning. It also has social networking/community features which enable interaction with other users. Mahara includes blogs, a resume builder, a file manager and a ‘page’ creator which helps users arrange their content to share with others, e.g. tutors, peers and employers.
