Professor Nigel White and Professor Mary Footer awarded funding for research into the security of transnational flows of natural resources

Professor Nigel White and Professor Mary Footer (Co-Directors of NILSC - the Nottingham International Law and Security Centre) have been awarded funding (100,000 Euros) from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) to undertake research into the security of transnational flows of natural resources: the role of private and state security actors in protecting the interests of the international extractive industry and their impact on the human rights and security of local people.

NILSC will undertake this research within a consortium also consisting of SOMO (a Dutch NGO) and Inkrispena (an Indonesian NGO), both specialising in business and human rights, and will involve two case studies in Indonesia. The project will run from May to October 2016.
