The BA Law is an excellent programme that meets the demand from highly-qualified students who wish to study law as an academic discipline, irrespective of whether they also wish to pursue a career in legal practice.
Beyond the study of the foundation subjects of English Law, the programmes provide you with the opportunity to specialise in further areas of law according to your own interest and future career plans and to undertake study in non-law subjects.
The difference between LLB and BA Law courses is that LLB students devote most, if not all, of their time to the study of law while BA students can spend up to approximately one third of their time studying modules outside the School.
The structure or the BA Law degree is outlined below. In the column on the right-hand side you will find documents that outline the compulsory modules and the optional modules available on this degree. Please note that not all of the modules listed may be available in any particular year.

When completing the BA Law degree, in order for it to be recognised as a Qualifying Law Degree, there is a requirement that students complete 240 credits (two-thirds of their degree) of law modules. This means that, in addition to the compulsory modules, students must complete an additional 20 credits of law during their studies.
Students registered on the BA Law degree may apply at the beginning of their second year to be transferred on to one of the four-year degrees, depending on their examination results and other considerations (competition for these courses is highly competitive and transfer cannot be assumed).
