The role of occupational health in the workplace is to:
- Prevent ill health in the workplace
- Promote good health in the workplace
- Maintain good health in the workplace
Industrial Diagnostics Company Ltd (IDC) has been selected as the University’s preferred provider for Occupational Health Services and is located in the Cripps Health Centre, University Park. IDC is a leading UK provider of health surveillance and statutory health surveillance services and has a vast experience in both the public and private sector.
The following staff work specifically for the University :

The service includes employment related occupational health support and pre-registration screening for medical students. Health surveillance is also provided for certain groups of workers in relation to specific process hazards on the basis of a risk assessment that considers exposure routes, extent and duration:
- fitness to work assessment for new staff as part of the recruitment process
- statutory medicals e.g. for asbestos, ionising radiation
- regular health surveillance checks for groups of workers exposed to particular hazards e.g. respiratory sensitisers, noise and vibration,
- immunity checks and vaccinations* for employees who need to be protected against infectious diseases whilst at work, including work with, or potential exposure to, human blood borne viruses.

The form should be completed by the authorised referring manager to initiate a health assessement/health surveillance. [*It should be noted that the referring unit will incur a charge for vaccination and/or blood test and a charge code will need to be provided at the time of referral. Where provided for the protection against a work-related hazard this cannot be passed on to the worker].
