Session locations

Some sessions will take place online. Find a study space to use if you need a quiet place to join.

Participation levels

Each event lists the level of interaction. This includes:

No interaction: an information session with no questions asked of the audience. You will not be asked to speak in front of the audience.
Some voluntary interaction: an information session with very limited (voluntary) participation. The speaker may ask questions or invite you to ask questions on a voluntary basis. You will not be asked to speak in front of the audience.
Active voluntary interaction: an interactive session, where the speaker may ask questions but will ask for voluntary answers. You may be asked to contribute.
Social interaction: A social/informal event aimed to help you get to know your peers and/or different services/groups from around the university.

4 to 5pm	How to Win at Being a Student	Designed using feedback from our current students and empirical research, this session covers how to get the best possible start at university and our five rules to win. 3 to 4pm	Let’s be Clear on Consent	Developed in collaboration with current students, consent training will be offered to all first-year students at the beginning of the 2023 academic year. The workshop is an interactive face-to-face session to explore; Why is consent important? What is it? What does it look like? And how can we contribute to a positive and safe university community? Please be aware that in the workshop we will be discussing sensitive issues relating to consent and sexual violence. This will connect to the lived experience of some students who are joining the university. Please feel supported to choose not to attend the workshop if this is not right/appropriate for you. Please be aware that you can access support if you are affected by these issues from your Support and Wellbeing Team or by contacting us via Report and Support. 2.30 to 4.30pm	CMVS Campus Challenge	Get to know campus and fellow students in the department with a quiz that will take you all over campus. There will be a chance to win a prize! Meet at 2.30pm to collect your question sheet and instructions, then find as many answers as you can in the time given. The answers will be revealed at the CMVS social at 4.30pm. 2 to 3.30pm	Creative Students Network – Broadway Cinema and Nottingham Contemporary visit	The Creative Students Network shares opportunities and events, organises industry guest talks and workshops, and coordinates internship opportunities for students in the Department of Cultural Media and Visual Studies. Join us at 2pm, for a tour and talk at Broadway Cinema, followed by a visit to Nottingham Contemporary.
