Environment Initiative Fund

Do you have a great idea for a sustainability project?

The University's Sustainability and Environment Committee has a budget of £100,000 to award to student or staff-led sustainability projects in 2017/18.

Individuals, groups or student societies are able to bid for funding for projects that enhance sustainability on campus or in the local community. Projects can address any aspect of sustainability.

Previously funded projects include:

  • Suite of films on sustainability at the University
  • Debate on divesting from fossil fuels
  • Desktop study on sustainability-related modules at the University

Deadlines for applications in 2017/18 are:

  • 4 October 2017 Extended to 27 October
  • 22 February 2018
  • 6 June 2018
 
 

 

How to apply

  1. Identify a member of Environment Committee to act as project sponsor. For student-led projects this is the Students' Union Environment and Social Justice Officer, for staff-led projects it is the most relevant representative for your department or campus.
  2. Discuss the project with your project sponsor.
  3. Complete the application form and send it, along with any supporting documentation, to the Sustainability Team by the deadline stated.

Tips for making a strong application

  • Check that your idea/project doesn't exist already 
  • Demonstrate how your project supports the University Sustainability Strategy
  • Seek project/funding partners - collaborative, part-funded projects will be considered more favourably than projects seeking full funding
  • Make sure you apply by the deadline!
