Research Assessment Exercise 2008

The Department of Theology and Religious Studies has been ranked officially as one of the best research destinations by the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. Ninety-five per cent of the Department's published research has been ranked as having international recognition in terms of originality, significance and rigour – with a greater proportion deemed world-leading than any other theology department in the country.

What is the RAE?

The RAE is an official, government-sponsored rating of research across all subjects in all UK universities, which is conducted every six years. With 67 different panels of academics, the RAE grades research performance in each subject area by reading the four best publications of each member of staff over the previous sic years, and also by assessing the quality of the research environment at the university and the achievements of the staff members.
