Research Topic

Loanword Processing by Different-script Chinese-English Bilinguals

Research Summary

My research aims to investigate the processes underlying word recognition by different-script bilinguals. Chinese-English loanwords (e.g., coffee-咖啡) will be used in isolated word recognition and sentence reading tasks to shed light on bilingual lexical access and the modulation effects of cross-linguistic lexical features (e.g., phonological overlap, semantic overlap, and word frequency) and sentence context. Hopefully, the project would offer more evidence for non-selective bilingual lexical access and the Bilingual Interactive Activation Plus (BIA+) Model.
