The role of input-modality in the acquisition of Arabic and English idioms in L1 and L2 settings, a cross-linguistic study.
Research Summary
One way to help L1 and L2 learners acquire vocabulary is to provide them with the optimal input-mode, i.e. the most favorable learning condition that meets their needs. Input-modality comes in three main forms: unimodal, i.e. using either listening modality or reading modality; bimodal, i.e. using both modalities, listening and reading; and multimodal, i.e. integrating the use of verbal modalities (e.g. listening and/or reading) with the use of image modality, e.g. pictorial information.
My PhD explores the effect of unimodal and multimodal input on the acquisition of idioms as a challenging aspect of language. In my studies, I addressed three types of populations: L1 English and Arab children, L1 English and Arab adults, and L2 English speakers.
Research Interests
I'm interested in L1 & L2 language acquisition, input-modality, cross-linguistic studies, quantitative research and open research.
