Postgraduate Research Student,
Elizabeth studied her undergraduate degree in Medical Physiology and Therapeutics at the University of Nottingham. During her studies, her interest in research directly relating to healthcare developed.
She has now begun her PhD project into the initial interactions of oral bacteria with dental surfaces. With funding from GSK, she aims to better understand the role of non-motile bacteria in plaque accumulation and maturation. Her work will produce high resolution images, using digital holographic microscopy, to improve visualisation and quantification of initial surface interactions. By studying the attachment at a single cell level, her work aims to improve knowledge of biofilm development and the influence of oral healthcare products.
