Biography
After graduating from King's College London in 2007 with an MPharm degree, I returned home to Essex to complete my pre-registration and basic grade training in Basildon hospital. After being a qualified pharmacist for a year, I changed jobs, but stayed at Basildon hospital to work in the medicines information centre. During this time, I started the post-graduate clinical diploma with the University of East Anglia; which I later completed at De Montfort University. I eventually left Basildon hospital for a job at University Hospitals of Leicester in spring 2010; my new post was as a clinical pharmacist split between intensive care and respiratory medicine. This role allowed me to develop my clinical, managerial, educational and research skills. I became a pre-registration tutor, contributed to several pharmacy and Trust-wide medicines management groups and spent time teaching patients, doctors, nurses and pharmacists on various aspects of medicines.
I eventually specialised as a COPD pharmacist in Leicester and NHS Transformational funding allowed me to carry out research on the impact of a COPD pharmacist on hospital re-admission rates. It was this work that inspired me to consider a career in research and led me to join the University of Nottingham.
Until 2017 I was a Research Practitioner, splitting my time between the University of Nottingham and Nottingham University Hospitals. This post was new to the hospital and university; I spent part of my time as a senior clinical pharmacist in the hospital and part of my time as a PhD student.
Since having completed my PhD in pharmacoepidemiology, I have undertake several research projects
Currently I am leading the quantitative evaluation of the Pharmacy First service, as part of a wider evaluation with collaborators at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
I am an Assistant Professor (lecturer) in the division of Pharmacy, Practice and Policy.

I am a member of the Pharmacy Leadership and Management module; an innovative fourth year MPharm module in which students learn through a pharmacy simulation in order to develop leadership, team working and clinical skills needed by pharmacists in practice. The module team was awarded the Lord Dearing Award for teaching excellence in 2016. In addition to this, I lecture and run workshops in the third year viral and parasitic infections module; particularly focusing on malaria, HIV, and measles, mumps and rubella.
I am one of the Senior Tutors in the School of Pharmacy and support undergraduates throughout their studies.
Finally, I am part of the novel 5-year integrated MPharm team and support students in their six month placements.
Current Research
I am currently into the final year of my PhD research. The title of my thesis is 'Better Targeting of Inhaled Steroids in COPD'. This research involves the use of anonymous UK patient data from a GP database in order to investigate links between patient factors, such as smoking, and efficacy of inhaled cortiocosteroid medications in preventing decline in lung function.
I am the recipient of a personal award from Pharmacy Research UK in order to support this research.
