Community participation and engagement

Focused on enabling public engagement with research in ways that enable community agency and opens opportunities for inclusion in terms of skills, training and employment in sectors that otherwise communities may feel excluded from.

Existing strands of activity

Working with underrepresented or marginalised groups (for example in relation to gender, disability, religion, socio-economic or cultural background) to support their needs and/or raise awareness of the difficulties they face.

Example activities:

 

Educational developments and resources that enable new ways of engaging with subject materials to better represent and engage minority communities and other underrepresented groups.

Example activities:

 

Promoting increased understanding and recognition of the need to protect community heritage and culture.

Example activities:

 

Research to enable community resilience following huge upheaval, such as natural disasters, conflict, pandemics, ensuring access to justice and to prevent disadvantage (for example in supporting the needs of refugees).
