Biography

Darren started his technical career as a Trainee Technician, within Environmental Sciences, in 2001. After his training period Darren was made a TS2 Technician. Over time Darren's skills and experience developed, specifically within laboratory management and analytical chemistry, achieving regrading to TS3 & TS4 over time.

After 12 years of working within Environmental sciences, Darren took on the role of Teaching Laboratories Team Leader. After several years of this role Darren was regraded to TS5 Senior Technical Manager - Teaching, Darren now manages the teaching team for Biosciences, along with the Rob Clarke Teaching lab, the Multidisciplinary containment level 2 Peter Buttery Superlab at Sutton Bonington Campus as well as the dietetics and clinical skills centre facilities in North lab.

Darren was a co-recipient, with the Biosciences Technical Teaching team, of a Lord Dearing award for outstanding contribution to the enhancement of the student experience in 2023.

Darren now manages the Biosciences teaching facilities and team, the technical teams and facilities for Agricultural & Environmental sciences and Animal sciences, the field trials team and the central stores facility. Darren also oversees all analytical services within Biosciences

Expertise in teaching areas of Food Science, Nutritional sciences, Microbiology and Molecular biology.
