Professor Chengqi Wang is Professor of Strategy and International Business. He joined Nottingham University Business School in 2007, having previously worked at the Centre for International Business at the University of Leeds (CIBUL) within Leeds University Business School from 2000 to 2007. Professor Wang has published over 50 papers in leading refereed international journals, including Journal of International Business Studies (31(3), 33(4), 38(3), 43(7)), Research Policy (47(1), 47(7), 44(3)), Journal of World Business (51(2), 55(3), 57(3)), and Long Range Planning (2025). He has secured approximately £510,000 in research funding from prestigious funding bodies such as the British Academy, Japan Foundation Endowments Committee, Sino-British Fellowship Trust, Universities' China Committee in London, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (key and general programs), the National Social Science Foundation of China (Key Program), the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Ningbo city government in China.
According to ScholarGPS's 2022 lifetime rankings, Professor Wang ranks among the top 1.75% of scholars globally in Business Management and the top 1.26% in Business Administration. He is also ranked in the top 0.53% worldwide for research on foreign direct investment. A study published in the Journal of International Management (AJG 3*, 2016, 22(4)) ranked him 11th globally in research on multinational firms from emerging markets based on impact scores. Professor Wang has successfully supervised ten PhD students to completion and is currently supervising three more. He has served as an external PhD examiner at leading universities, including the University of Cambridge, University of Edinburgh, Monash University, University of Warwick, Durham University, and University of Leeds. He serves on the editorial boards of Research Policy (as Advisory Editor), Management and Organization Review, and the International Journal of the Economics of Business.
He holds visiting professorships at the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Metropolitan University, and several leading universities in mainland China, including Renmin University of China, Zhejiang University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He has taught in Singapore, South Korea, and China, and has advised international organisations such as the European Union, as well as the British and Chinese governments (both central and local) and the business sector.
Within Nottingham University Business School, Professor Wang has held several senior administrative roles, including Head of the Department of Strategy and International Business and Research Director of the same department.
